No more room for corruption, CP warns officers

The new Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Haliru Gwandu, has warned officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the state to shun extortion, bribery and corruption in the discharge of their duties.
He gave the warning during a familiarisation meeting with officers of the Command held at the Police Officers Mess in Bauchi.
He told the officers that the era of zero tolerance has come, hence the need for them to shun all corrupt acts, warning that anyone caught will face the full wrath of the law.

He said: “This era won’t tolerate corruption. Wherever you find yourself, the issue of corruption, bribery and extortion should not be there. If you are apprehended, you are on your own.
“It is time for attitudinal change in everything. In fact, policemen are supposed to lead this crusade.”
He disclosed that a team of corruption crusaders will arrive in the state shortly for a rally to propagate the gospel of zero tolerance for such acts among officers.
Gwantu warned the officers to declare their assets accurately to the Code of Conduct Bureau.
“It is very essential you declare your assets. Don’t tell lies because that department is a very relevant and strong department in this dispensation. So, declare your assets honestly and with utmost sincerity.
“If you fill lies in your form, you are liable and if you under-declare your assets, you are also liable,” he said.
The CP stated that a lot of the problems in the Police happen among the rank and file who, he added, don’t take orders from superior officers. He warned Divisional Police Officers to always supervise them.
